Broadway Bares VIII
Peep Show
Directed by Jerry Mitchell

Mother Goose’s timeless rhymes were stripped away at “Peep Show,” giving whole new meanings to “Three Men in a Tub” and “Little Boy Blue, Come Blow Your Horn.” Little Bo Peep found her naked sheep in the ad campaign and led the audience through a reexamination of these tales that tell us from childhood how we should act, turning all notions of good behavior upside down in the process. Broadway celebrities such as Sandra Bernhard, Alan Cumming, and Deborah Gibson were now regularly appearing in the show, not just as guest hosts, but in routines with the cast. The audience was full of repeat customers, cheering loudly before the curtain even rose, in anticipation of a night of bedtime stories created just for grown-ups.
